Post-Season

Post-Season

Our WVLL All-Star and Select post-season teams play in regional exhibition games and tournaments, and for All-Stars, in the District and even the Provincial Championships.  Notice is given by the Division Coordinator for All-Star tryouts that are only allowed to occur after a date specified by Little League International each year. Typically this date is not before June 15th or two weeks in advance of a District Championship commencing.  Select teams are named AFTER All-Stars.  Managers of post-season teams are selected by the WVLL Coaching Committee based on written applications.

Eligibility

Any player may try out for an All-Star or Select team based on their age.  For All-Stars, the player must haved played on any Little League team (not necessarily WVLL), live or go to school within the WVLL boundaries and be the correct League Age for the given division. It is mandatory that players play within their designated division and age group for All-Stars, that is 9/10 for Minors All-Stars and 11/12 for Majors All-Stars.  Select teams are 9 or 11 and below.  By Little League rules players must have played in 60 percent of their regular-season team’s games to be eligible for post-season play.

Selection Process and Criteria

During the selection process individual skills and abilities will be noted and rated by impartial assessors. The Manager will consider positional requirements and may require players suiting his/her team philosophy. Selection criteria include availability, ability, skills, desire and specific team needs. A player's attitude in the regular season and fitting in in the dugout also count.  The Manager will gather input from all regular season coaches in the Division.

Parents will be informed of the number of games, tournaments, practice commitments and any volunteering asap after team selection.  It's expected of All-Stars players that vacation and other conflicts will not prevent full participation in all practices and games.  Select teams are more flexible, and deliberately chosen with larger rosters for flexibility.
